Admin/Biographical History This is a piece of commemorative mail carried on Southern Airways' first flight to Monore, Louisiana (DC-3 aircraft). This first flight cover was mailed to Frank Hulse, founding president of Southern Airways.
Scope & Content First flight cover from Southern Airways for service to Monroe, Louisiana, June 13, 1953. Pink cachet reads: "U.S. Air Mail / FIRST FLIGHT / A.M. 98 / MONROE, LOUISIANA" and illustration of a DC-3 aircraft and an eagle. Air mail label: "SOUTHERN AIRWAYS / SPED TO YOU VIA AIR MAIL / REPLY BY AIR." Envelope is addressed to Mr. Frank Hulse, President; Southern Airways; Birmingham, Ala.
