This toy represents Dusty the Delta Air Lion, mascot of the Delta Fantastic Flyer membership program for children, which launched in 1989. Dusty is dressed like a 1920s crop-dusting pilot.
The name "Dusty" and his pilot gear represents Delta's early roots as the world's first crop-dusting company, Huff Daland Dusters, which became Delta Air Service in 1928. Delta continued its crop-dusting operations until 1966.
The cardboard airplane represents the Huff Daland Duster, the first aircraft designed for cropdusting. The logo on the cardboard airplane features Thor, the Norse god of war and agriculture, waging battle on the boll weevil insect attacking cotton crops in the 1920s.
