This is a model of the proposed 246-passenger Super Sonic Transport (SST) with a "variable-sweep wing" announced by Boeing in June 1966. The variable-sweep wing is shown in regular and supersonic flight positions. In October 1968, a fixed-wing version of the SST was selected for continued development.
The American SST was intended to carry 250 passengers (more than twice as many as the Concorde) and fly at Mach 2.7-3.0. Delta ordered three of the aircraft from Boeing in 1964, but government funding stopped in 1971, and the Boeing SST project was closed.
