Description Quick-release aircraft safety seat belt and its original box.
A-B. Safety belt consists of two separate pieces of heavy webbed canvas (5 inch width) with metal attachments.
C. Cardboard box with removeable lid. Label on box: "Rusco Aero Safety Belt, Stock No. Ae-26 D." Handwriting on box: "Doug Davis Atlanta"
Artist/Maker Russell Manufacturing Company, Middletown, Connecticut
Provenance Believed to be a belt owned by early Atlanta aviation pioneer Douglas Henry Davis, Sr.

Doug Davis was among the first to make aviation a business in Atlanta in the 1920s. He built the first hangar on Chandler Field, was a famous air racer, and became a pilot for Eastern Air Lines in 1930.
