B. Air Transport Auxiliary, worn by Vic Hewes from 1940-1941
C. Royal Air Force (RAF), worn by Vic Hewes from 1940-1947
D. Delta-C&S Air Lines, issued 1953-1955
F. Northwest Airlines, acquired by Vic Hewes in 1950
G. Delta, issued 1956-1972
H. Delta, issued 1972-2001
I. Air Atlanta, 1980s
Provenance Pilot hat badges worn by Capt. Vic Hewes during his aviation career from 1940-1987. The badges show his service as Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) second officer and Royal Air Force squadron leader during World War II, and his service with Delta from 1948-1982. The Northwest Airlines badge was acquired while flying in the Korean Airlift in 1950. After his retirement from Delta in 1982, he was Air Atlanta Director-Flight Operations from 1982-1987. Vic Hewes became a world-recognized authority in aviation fire safety, and was enshrined in the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame in 1997.
